Volunteers needed to host various 2-hour time slots at the Center

Serve the community, support Pride Lafayette, and add new skills to your resume all at the same time.  Become a volunteer host at the Pride Lafayette Community Center by registering for training today!  To express interest, please complete the form below after reviewing this information.

Hosting is one of our most valued volunteer positions at the Pride Lafayette Community Center.  Without hosts, we wouldn't be able to keep the Center open 7 days a week to provide the education, support, and social programs that improve the quality of life for the local LGBT community and its allies.

Hosts volunteer for at least two 2-hour shifts each month at the Center.  Hosts are trained to provide an informative, welcoming and safe experience for visitors to the Pride Lafayette Community Center.  Our two-hour training program will provide you the information you need to feel comfortable in this volunteer role.

The times for this round of Center Host Training will be:
  • Thursday, November 11th 6:00PM-8:00PM
  • Sunday, November 14th 5:00PM-7:00PM
  • Tuesday, November 16th 6:00PM-8:00PM (NEW!)
If you're unavailable for any of these times, you can indicate this on the application form below.  If possible, we will attempt to schedule an alternative time.  More training times will also be offered in the future.

You can view the Center Host Volunteer Training Guide to get an idea of what training involves.  The first 30 minutes of Center Host Training focuses on basic information about hosting, including open/close procedures and Center policies.  The second 30 minutes provides trainees the chance to practice our scripted tour of the Center, along with time for questions and answers to help fill in any gaps of knowledge.  The final hour of training is an interactive program designed to ensure hosts are able to maintain a welcoming and fully inclusive Center environment.

Qualifications and characteristics of volunteer Center hosts include:
  • Familiarity with Pride Lafayette and the Pride Lafayette Community Center, which includes other volunteer roles and visiting the Center on a regular basis
  • Prior volunteer or work experience in a professional office setting
  • Prior volunteer or work experience involving interacting with the public
  • Ability to interact comfortably with a wide variety of people from all backgrounds, belief systems, and identities
  • Ability to act independently, decisively and authoritatively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • A passion to maintain a strong sense of unity and camaraderie among members of the local LGBT community and its allies
